The Loire Valley Climate
An Introduction

One of the real appeals of the Loire is the climate.

The region is in the centre of France making it distinctly warmer than the coastal regions, warm Atlantic air follows the Loire Valley inland, creating a pleasantly temperate micro climate.

Even at the height of summer the Loire rarely suffers the exsessive heat of the south of France.

Rainfall is moderate and spread throughout the year, the wettest month being October.

Spring can be cold earlier on, and sometimes wet too, but the sunnier days make this one of the loveliest times of all, especially from around mid-April.

Summers are hot but rarely sweltering, June and September are particularly lovely months with summery temperatures without the crowds.

Autumn is a beautiful time to enjoy the wine fairs, mushrooms and game.

Winter is not especially cold but many of the regions sights are closed.
